The Gift

He sat beneath the sky today

While Chico and Sassy were at play

And contemplated the meaning of bliss

So simply captured in her sweet kiss

Wishing time would pass on by

And bring her back before his eyes,

Still knowing all the same full well

Her time is not his to buy or sell

Nor should it be for that would mean

A special spirit had been demeaned,

Somehow subverted to the needs of one

Who sees in her the moon and sun…

No, it is enough to hold that smile

In lingering repose within his mind,

And pass in peace amongst the trees

Alongside the gently rushing stream

So he must wait, but not for long

For her return to complete the song,

Once envisioned, long surrendered

Now resurrected by a heart so tender

Can she know? He oft time wonders

How special and rare the gift conferred,

Upon this child of the living earth

When God’s own glory conceived her birth
