Sad and Certain Daylight

she lies here beside him,

 protector and protected,

lover and friend,

a puzzling nymph,

she comes, she goes,

she floats in and out

of all his dreams and years

who is she and why?

escapes his lips

as he awakens to

sad and certain daylight
